Measure in the travelling condition
Record the length, width and height of each large piece. If parts can be safely removed, note the reduced measurements as well. Allow room for protective wrapping. Photograph how components fit together before dismantling, and keep the measurements attached to the item name so they cannot be confused.
Check the narrowest point
Measure both properties, including doors, lift openings and corridors. A piece may fit through a doorway but not turn at the next corner. Check the route from the parking position to its final room, not just the main entrance. Share stairs, long carries and unusual access with the transport team.
Identify delicate components
Glass tops, mirrors, exposed legs and polished surfaces need their own handling discussion. Empty drawers and cupboards before lifting. Keep fittings in labelled bags and do not tape directly onto finishes that could be damaged. Confirm who supplies protection and whether dismantling or reassembly is part of the agreed work.
Use the inventory to obtain a quote
Send the measurements, photographs and access notes together. Ask the team to confirm the vehicle and assistance required. When buying used furniture, ask the seller to verify access and collection readiness. These checks improve the plan without creating a promise that every oversized item can be moved.
